250+ Prisons
ABOUT US
Build Prison Ministries (BPM) was formed after a gospel outreach to Luzira Maximum Security Prison by a Women Church Group in the year 1992. Thereafter, the ministry was registered with the Uganda NGO Board on 13th July 2001 under the name ‘Build Up Again Ex-Prisoners Association (BAP), that was later changed to Build Prison Ministries for better identification. By July 2025, BPM had ministered in 250 prisons, (mostly up-country) out of a total of 261 prisons in Uganda.
MISSION
Build Prison Ministries transforms the spiritual, moral and living conditions of prisoners, their families, and similar poor women-headed households in Uganda, through the gospel of Jesus Christ and appropriate development initiatives.

OUR PROJECTS

INSIDE PRISON SUPPORT PRORECT

Evangelism and discipleship outreaches are made regularly to Uganda prisons country-wide. Spiritual and emotional support is given to the inmates, as well as toiletries, mainly soap. By July, 2025, we had minintered in 250 units, mostly upcountry), out of a total of 261 prisons in Uganda.

Risky Families Support ProjecT

This project comprised of two programs namely:

(a) Families Income Generation Program:

Prisoners’ families and similar poor women-headed households live in dire poverty. The women heading the households are illitrate, and cannot qualify for well-paid skilled jobs. They resort to petty trades that earn them less than a dollar a day, which income is insufficient to meet the basic domestic needs. Most, therefore,
live in shanty, dilapidated structures, eat one meal a day, cannot afford adequate medical facilities and the children do not go to school.

(b) Education Program:

Many prisoners’ children are fond of loitering. A number become street children; while the the girl children become victims of early marriages, and prostitution. The women heading the households are also often captivated by the same illicit trend too.

The cycle of crime also keeps on revolving.

After Custody Support Project

A Car Washing/Parking Bay providing income generation and skills development for 20 ex-inmates at a time; was set up at Namasuba, appoximately, two miles from Kampala City center, from the year 2002 – 2006. It is to be reactivated as an all Car Service enterprise.
